How To Use Boiled Chicken
Boiling a chicken provides you with some great soup stock. The broth takes on the rich flavors from the bones, meat, cartilage, and fat. Besides that, you get a lot of meat you can use to make your other cooking duties simple. Some cooks actually throw out all this good protein, but that is such an expensive waste. Instead, you can use the boiled chicken in a lot of different recipes.
If you're using a whole chicken to make stock, try to get an older bird if you can. This is not always possible at the grocery store, since they usually just stock young fryers. If you can't get an older bird, remove the chicken from the stock pot when the meat is done. Let it cool enough to strip the meat from the bones, then add the bones and skin back to the pot to work their magic on your broth.
Look at that nice pile of cooked chicken you have. Just think of all the delicious recipes you can make with it. You can do a simple rough chop now and create bite size pieces, or you can shred it if you like to use it that way. If you don't have a use for it now, put it in the freezer to use later.
One of the most popular options is chicken salad recipes. Chicken salad can be used for sandwiches, served on its own, or eaten as a snack or meal. You can make it with nuts, fruit, or celery. There are so many versions, you shouldn't have a problem finding one you like best.
You can always use boiled chicken in pasta recipes, quesadillas, and casseroles. If you cook it too long and the chicken gets a little spent, you can always use it in a dish that uses lots of sauce or seasonings. Cover it with barbecue sauce and pile it on bread or noodles.
Don't be afraid to tweak your chicken salad a little. You could stir in a little curry to make it unique. You could also use your chicken for chili, tetrazzini or lasagna. You're sure to run out of your chicken before you run out of recipe ideas!
Setting your favorite chicken salad recipe aside, you can also create a delicious stew or pot pie. Chicken is an excellent ingredient in these types of recipes. Of course you can make chicken tacos, tamales, or enchiladas, too. Put some in ravioli or egg rolls.
If you're making chicken broth, you may want to enjoy some delicious chicken soup. Just toss in some of your cooked chicken shortly before serving to warm it through. You can also use boiled chicken to grind up or make into chicken croquets.
The great thing about keeping boiled chicken on hand is how easy it makes your cooking. Make the rest of your recipe, season your boiled chicken appropriately for the recipe, and drop it in. Now you have a quick, tasty meal that took very little time and effort on your part. Keep this ingredient handy.
