The Normandy Double Bowl Sink - Number Two Sink
The second most popular sink on the site sinks.co.uk, the Normandy Double Bowl Sink is a traditional French farmhouse ceramic sink. Being the largest double bowl sink available on the site helps it retain its popularity. It differs from other double bowl sinks in that it has two equal-sized bowls that can easily accommodate large oven trays, specifically those found in Agas. Shortly after the introduction of Belfast and Butler sinks in the end of the 19th century is when French farmhouse sinks first came into fashion. Emile and Andre Porcher, two French brothers with a factory in northern France, used local clay to make their sinks. As opposed to the rough red Staffordshire clay commonly used at Potteries, their clay was of a superior quality, allowing the French manufacturers to produce a finer product. Some designs dating from the end of the 19th century are still produced today, a testament to their good design. Enjoying the reputation as one of the oldest and most respected names in fireclay sink manufacture, the Porcher name continues to this day in the Loire region of France.
Featuring the manufacturer's logo stamped into the side wall of the sink, the Normandy Double Bowl Sink has a most authentic vintage look. Coming in a non-tarnish or a Satin chrome finish, the farmhouse sink will accommodate a 60mm basket strainer waste. If you wish, you can install a plug and chain, although that will require drilling to mount the chainstay.
By following a few simple cleaning guidelines, fireclay sinks are easy to maintain and will last a lifetime.
