Color Palettes For A Vintage Wedding Theme
The vintage look is a mainstay for weddings and is possibly the most popular choice when it comes to wedding color schemes and themes. When you think of vintage you may instantly think about ditsy florals, muted colors and a hint of shabby chic, but the term vintage can cover periods from the 1920s through to the 1970s and can include the glamorous Art Deco period and 1950s retro.
Here are three color palette ideas for a vintage wedding theme:
Pale Pink, Ivory and Old Gold:
This is one palette where I would suggest you throw out the 60-30-10 rule and instead apply these colors in equal quantities or pink 30%, old gold 30% and ivory 40%. Use ditsy florals in your table linens and add details with old lace, velvet ribbon and ceramic jugs for your table centers.
For your wedding favors vintage style glass jars filled with candies are a cute choice or go for cupcakes wrapped in lace papers. Choose garden flowers like roses, peonies and hydrangeas to complete the vintage look.
Red, Duck Egg Blue and White:
For a vintage look with a fifties feel this is a great choice. It is not too retro but is a nice vibrant palette that suits summer weddings in a variety of locations – it is a nice choice for a beach wedding if you did not want to go for the nautical look! Again look for prints which feature all these colors, there are nice fabrics around which feature red roses on a duck egg background with white dots. Use this as your inspiration for your stationery, decorations and favors.
Bunting of course is perfect for a vintage wedding and glass jars or bottles are a good choice for your table centers. Alternative choices include using baskets, terracotta plant pots or small buckets. Roses are of course the best choice to coordinate with this scheme, but you could also use white hydrangeas, peonies or tulips.
Cream, Champagne and Old Gold:
For a vintage scheme with real glamour this color palette cannot fail. Use cream and champagne as your base colors and accent with old gold. Look for beautiful devore or damask fabrics and use them as inspiration for your stationery. Cut glass, or crystal if you can afford it, is nice for your table centers and glassware and put your wedding favors in clear Perspex boxes and wrap with wide strips of lace.
For your flowers you should stick with traditional choices such as roses, lilly of the valley, hydrangeas and white freesias. Keep your arrangements small and low so as not to overpower the entire scheme, you want an understated glamour look with fifties inspiration.
