Going Green For Your Redecorating
If you are ready to redecorate I encourage you to think green. This doesn’t necessarily mean you are forced into buying the latest table made of recycled goods. Buying green can be as easy as finding older second hand vintage furniture. Not only can you find some nice pieces for second hand use they are already made and of high quality parts. So you are not buying anything just made and you are recycling used goods. It is a win win for the green way of living.
What if it is really old and outdated? Just update it. A fresh coat of environmentally friendly paints or fabrics can jazz up that vintage furniture and bring it up to date. You can also add new uses for it. See an old china plate holder? Why not change it into a decorative DVD collection holder instead? It will look excellent and you will use it more than you might have before.
Most of the times you will find this kind of furniture on closer to home places, antique shops, or the guy down the street from his listing on craigslist. This will save on gas from traveling and buying used reduces the cost of manufacturing it in the first place.
Try to find wood that been taken care of for the long haul but is now in need of a new home. It is a form of “reclaiming” the usability of the wood furniture since it is already made for a “long haul” and instead of going into a junk pile it is now being used as a decorative home piece.
If you have to buy new furniture because you can not get what you need in vintage form then you should look for a nearby craftsman. Not only does it support your local economy it will also help to eliminate unnecessary packing and shipping supplies that may not be as recyclable.
There are plenty of options for your redecorating needs that are eco friendly and green happy. Just keep an eye out and don’t try any short cuts. The options you find will be environmentally friendly and beautiful as well.
