Although the windmill symbolizes Holland, you are wrong if you believe you are able to see shanghai tour windmills everywhere there.
The first stop for us in Holland should be the capital Amsterdam, a bustling commercial city, where you could find no trace of windmills. Originally in the end of the 18th century when Holland were in its floruit, there were about 9000 windmills, each of which could create 6000 horsepower. With the help of wind power, Dutch people fought with the sea. They pumped water from low-level bog to remove, transforming bogs into fertile land to plant. Besides, windmills could grinder grains, crude salt, and shanghai hotels tobacco leaf, squeeze oil or press feather and carpet. Therefore, windmills at that time were widely used in flat and windy Holland.
But after the industrial revolution, steam power and diesel motor replaced windmills and the functions of windmills gradually escaped people's mind. Plus with the fire attacks caused by thunders, harms brought by strong windstorms and wars, lots of windmills were damaged. Till today only over 900 out of the original 9000 windmills survived. However, as the global temperature worsens to rise high windmills will be able to function again, supplying non-carbon new energy and bearing the new task of environmental protection.
Six windmills alongside a green river
To see windmills, we particularly come to visit Zaanse Schans around Amsterdam. Takes a train at the central station in the capital and arrives at Zaandam in 20 minutes. On the town, takes a free ferry and in 5 minutes reaches Zaanse Schans. This is a typical European suburban townlet which becomes a charming tourist resort under the delicate construction of travel agency.
Stepping into a quiet town from a bustling city, you will feel like entering another world. You will see a strip of green river winding through exquisite green log cabins where green grass forms a carpet and various flowers blossom, fascinating and full of green. Besides, the log cabins here blend with the nature—jade-green outside walls, delicate and elegant. Under the shadow, a open food stall locates. Small knots of people drink and chat in leisure.
Step after step a line of six windmills along peaceful Zaan River walk into your eye. Warm sunshine projects the heroic bearing of windmills onto the water through rolling cloud drift. Small white flowers blossom alongside the river, sway with winds as if welcoming the guests from far away. In the other side of windmills is fields of planting land. Sheep coated by black and white markings browse fresh grass leisurely. Take a broad view, a piece of dulcet and elegant landscape is formed as blue sky embracing white cloud, windmills watching water reflections and white flowers crowding cow.
