How Socio-Economics Can Effect Criminal Defense Statistics
California is known for being a progressive state, but with progress there comes a price. The living standard throughout all of California has risen significantly. San Francisco, Sacramento, and L.A. Have increased the cost to live in their towns significantly. What had once been a semi reasonable area has just become a wallet gouging suburb. Replying to these raises in price, folk have to look else whereabouts to find living that they can afford.
The rich are stilling living in wealthy areas and the poor are congregating in cheaper, less safe areas. When we have a look at different numbers of arrest rates in Los Angeles, we can tell which areas are far more subject to arrests. A couple places such as Malibu/Lost Hills are only in the treble digits for arrests in 2009. Then having a look at Lancaster and East LA you have arrests in the 2,000s for felonies, not counting misdemeanors.
Famous ghetto areas such as Compton have a staggering 7,384 misdemeanors and felonies combined. Its opposite in numbers is an arrest total at 693 at Crescenta. There's certainly a socio-economical reason why rich areas are far more crime deficient than that of a city project. But are the numbers this out of proportion. Is there a chance that the numbers are a bit skewed?
Consider the trend that more offenses are caused in poor regions. A law officer might make more arrests and charge folks with crimes based on the area they live in. Guilty by association has occurred more often than once all though the U. S. , and who says it doesn't happen in Compton? We hope that false arrests don't occur, but as we are humans, so are the peace officers that make the call. Bias, lack of info, fear, panic, misunderstanding, are all possible reasons a cop might cuff a trusting onlooker.
