i hav a pair of burleigh staffordshire dogs, i got when my gran died,can ne1 tell me if they are worth anythin?
on the underneath it says 'once regarded as essential ornaments on the mantelshelf of the real old english cottage, these 'comforters' or 'spaniels' gentles as they were sometimes called, made in pairs to face each other, were originally produced from 1810 to 1880. Special features werethe almost human eyes and the gold padlock and chain hanging from the collar

Is all of this actually written on the bottom by the manufacturer? If so, they are reproductions and probably not worth a great deal. Another way of identifying their age would be to ascertain the size of the hole used in the firing, a pin size hole would be evident in an "original" set, whereas a large hole would have been used in a "modern" set.
Various modes of decoration can also greatly impact their value, as can condition, of course. I'm afraid without actually seeing them I can't shed much light on their monetary value.
Most of the early versions had no markings and were made by a number of potteries operating in the Staffordshire region at the time.
The value can vary greatly from a few pounds to several hundred pounds, depending on their specific details, age and rarity.

Yes, I'm afraid these are "contemporary," I don't know exactly how old they are, but undoubtedly post war. Apparently made as a specific collectible. My guess would be that they're not worth much more than thirty pounds for the pair. Although, if you sell at auction and someone really wants them, you may be surprised. Of course, this should in no way be construed as a professional appraisal, as that would have to be done in person. This is just a general guesstimate!
