One Rose Quilt, Hundreds of Different Patterns
To the untrained eye, there could be little difference between assorted rose quilt patterns. Some people just look at them and think 'it's a flower pattern '. In real general terms they are right, however what they overlooked was the layout and patterns in the design that would help them define what type of pattern it was.
To help with this, I have listed a couple of the rose quilt patterns you are likely to encounter in your quilting travels:
Victorian Rose
This form of quilt is a very traditional looking design. Usually it will have a center piece with one or many roses in the middle. Typically there may not be any other roses appearing round the edges or other areas of the quilt.
Often the center-piece is framed with a patterned square border and stylings to add some flavour to the central picture.
Patchwork Rose
This kind of pattern is done by stitching rose patterns onto squares and then sewing the squares together in a corresponding style as a patchwork quilt. Typically with some different colored patches in between.
There is a bit of disagreement amongst quilters on this one, some argue this is a correct rose quilt, while the other side contend that its essentially a patchwork quilt with roses. I don't really mind which side you select as these quilts always look good!
Rambling Rose
The rambling rose is another iconic style of rose quilt where it would seem that the roses are growing in a creative fashion up and round the quilt. Usually the roses and vines are interlocking and appear to grow in a rounded motion round the quilt.
Which ever design you choose, you are sure to have a nice looking rose quilt. The important part is just to select one and get on to your next project!
