How successful is Royal Mail door to door leaflet distribution for sales leads ?
I have a kitchen company and thinking of using royal mail to distribute 30k leaflets to residential properties to generate leads .Has anyone tried this and if so what was the responce please ?
The general consensus for door to door leaflet distribution is that it works but you have to measure it closely.
I can't personally comment on RM but I can give some advice.
The average success rate or conversions of a leaflet distribution is 0.5% so 5 sales per 1000 leaflets. (it's low because it's considered untargetted marketing except for geographic regions and lots of them will be binned)
Your percentage will increase or decrease depending on the quality of the leaflet which includes type of paper/card used, resolution of images and most importantly the written content (mainly the headline statement and the call to action). Cheap leaflets almost always get binned.
What you need to calculate is whether this campaign will keep you in profit by using the 0.5% rate of your 30K leaflets (approx 150) and multiply by your average sale price. If this is much more than what it cost you for your leaflets & distribution then that's good, if you break even, at least you've gained leads, if you make a loss then it's not worth it.
Royal mail will probably be the most reliable but there are cheaper distribution companies out there who will monitor their distributors and give some sort of guarantee.
